In an entertaining and dramatic Champions League semi-final, Real Madrid came back from the brink of elimination to defeat Manchester City 3-1 after extra time and 6-5 on aggregate.

Riyad Mahrez gave City a 1-0 lead and a 5-3 aggregate lead after 73 minutes on Wednesday, but Real substitute Rodrygo equalised in the final minute of normal time and headed home one minute later to draw the tie at 5-5.

Real Madrid, the record 13-time European winners, held off a shell-shocked English side to reach the final after Karim Benzema converted a penalty awarded for a foul on him by Ruben Dias five minutes into extra time.

City battled diligently to contain their opponents, who failed to score a goal in the first half.

With Real quickly running out of ideas, Bernardo Silva raced through the middle of their defence and handed the ball off for Mahrez to finish, and City appeared certain to keep their title hopes alive.
