After missing the World Cup, Washington will host an MLS All-Star game

• DC United awarded 2023 Major League Soccer All-Star Game.
• Audi Field will host the game on July 19, 2023. Washington, D.C., was one of nine venues for the 1994 World Cup.
• U.S., Canada, and Mexico’s bid for the 2026 World Cup was overlooked by FIFA.

Subsequent to neglecting to be chosen as one of the host urban communities for the 2026 World Cup, Washington got an incidental award on Thursday when DC United was granted the 2023 Major League Soccer All-Star Game.

The game, to be played on July 19 at DC United’s home Audi Field, will facilitate a portion of the sting of the joint bid of Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Maryland being ignored when FIFA last week declared the 16 settings for the 2026 World Cup, which will be shared by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Washington, D.C., was one of nine settings for the 1994 World Cup, the last time the U.S. facilitated the soccer event.

“We are excited to bring the MLS All-Star Game and merriments back to Washington, D.C., a city with a rich soccer history, as well as a different and lively soccer culture,” said MLS chief Don Garber in a proclamation.

“D.C. Joined together and the local area has consistently held a unique spot in the hearts of each and every individual who trusted in the power and development of soccer in the U.S., and Audi Field will give a staggering scenery to the following summer’s down.”

Washington has facilitated the MLS mid-season grandstand two times before in 2002 and 2004 at RFK Stadium however the following year’s down will be the first played at the soccer explicit arena Audi Field which opened in 2018.

The current year’s down between the MLS All-Stars and Mexico’s LIGA MX All-Stars will be played on Aug. 10 in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
