Amol Muzumdar may finally breathe a sigh of relief after leading Mumbai to within a whisker of a record 42nd Ranji Trophy victory. In the final, they will face Madhya Pradesh, which begins on June 22 in Bengaluru.
Since taking over as head coach from Ramesh Powar in June 2021, his aim has been to get the squad “back on track in red-ball cricket,” and the months of hard preparation have paid off.
Muzumdar’s success credo was simple: stick to the procedure that was working in the dressing room and demonstrate entire devotion till the finish.
“You’re dealing with a different generation here,” Muzumdar says of Mumbai’s tradition and coping with the current group of players. “I personally believe it is a different game”
Apart from that, Muzumdar and the crew were particularly concerned with regulating the workload of the bowlers and ensuring they did not become exhausted.
“The bowling unit has been fantastic, they’ve been putting in the effort throughout – 365 days,” Muzumdar said.
Muzumdar believes that the “bold” generation next has a “feeling of the Bombay tradition” from growing up in Mumbai’s maidans, and that every player treasures the coveted Mumbai cap.
“The only difference [in this generation’s approach] is how you take it and how you bring it to the dressing room; how you keep that dressing room light,” Muzumdar added
“There are a lot of things that happen in a season – a lot of ups and downs, out-of-form players and so many things to deal with,” Muzumdar said
