Darwin Nunez has addressed why he decided Liverpool over Manchester United despite Manchester United’s interest.

Liverpool formally revealed the Uruguay international on Tuesday, completing the Merseyside club’s first summer signing. He joins the club from Benfica in a transaction worth an estimated £85 million, including add-ons.

Following an outstanding season in Portugal, the attacker has been linked with a transfer to United. Last season, the 22-year-old scored 34 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions, catching the attention of some of the Premier League’s biggest names.

Apart from the fact that United needed a new forward to help Cristiano Ronaldo, who is now the club’s lone number nine following the departure of Edinson Cavani, it became evident in recent weeks that they were going to lose to their bitter rivals. Darwin Nunez recently revealed why he selected Liverpool after completing his move to Anfield.

“It’s a pleasure to be here in Liverpool and I’m very happy to be a part of this great club,” Nunez told Liverpool’s website. “I’ve played against Liverpool and I’ve seen them in lots of games in the Champions League, and it’s my style of play.

“There are some great players here and I think it’s going to suit my style of play here. As I say, I’ve watched quite a lot and it’s a very big club and I hope I can give everything that I’ve got in order to help the team.”
