Pakistan won the first Test at Galle to take a 1-0 series lead. Under the captaincy of Babar Azam, the Shaheens created a venue record for the most successful run-chase in the longest format when opener Abdullah Shafique hammered an undefeated century (160*). Wasim Akram, Shahid Afridi, and Javed Miandad praised the team’s triumph in Galle.

Miandad discussed Pakistan’s victory in-depth on his official YouTube channel, reserving particular praise for Babar Azam and his captaincy.

“Team is playing as a combined unit, and the credit goes to our players as well as our no.1 captain. He is our captain cool. He doesn’t lose his temper,” Miandad said.

“He led the team brilliantly. The most important thing is he is performing brilliantly himself. He leads from the front. Often, if a captain doesn’t perform, it can affect the team negatively and it leads to his downfall.”

The former captain of Pakistan also remarked that Babar Azam should lead the team until his retirement. “Babar Azam is now an adult. The former cricketer who represented Pakistan in 123 Tests and 233 ODIs stated that he should serve as the team’s captain until his retirement.

Earlier, Pakistan’s pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi was the most effective bowler, taking 4/58. Hasan Ali and Yasir Shah each grabbed two wickets, whilst Naseem Shah and Mohammed Nawaz were only able to take one.
