Pakistan’s former skipper Shahid Afridi made his pick for the final match as the ICC T20 World Cup draw nears.

Boom Boom Afridi said, “Pakistan and Australia will be the finalist for the T20 World Cup 2022.”

In the last year’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan and Australia came face to face in the semifinals where the Aussies defeated Green Shirts by 5 wickets.

Pakistan is placed in Group 2 with arch-rivals India, South Africa, and Bangladesh, a runner-up from Group A and a winner from Group B Qualifiers.

Australia is placed in Group 1 along with England, New Zealand, and Afghanistan, a winner from Group A and a runner-up from Group B Qualifiers.

Ponting has a different point of view

Australian cricketing legend Ricky Ponting revealed that India and Australia will be the ones to make it to the finals of the T20 World Cup.

He further stated that Babar Azam is the key to success for Pakistan in the tournament.

“If Babar doesn’t have a great tournament, I don’t think they can win,” Ponting stated.

“I saw him up close and personal a couple of years ago out here in a Test series against Australia and I said it then, I thought the sky was the limit for this guy as far as Test match batting (was concerned) and, if anything, he’s probably got better and better in the last couple of years,

“Their openers are very important and their new-ball bowlers are very important, but that role of the spin bowler in Australia might be a little bit more difficult with wickets that probably won’t give them assistance,” the former captain highlighted.

T20 World Cup is slated to begin on October 22 with the Qualifiers Stage starting on October 16. Two teams will qualify from the 1st round before the main event begins.

Pakistan will play their opener against their arch-rivals India on October 23.
