Aqib Javed, a former Pakistan bowler, voiced his displeasure with the team’s selection of players on Friday, questioning whether the Men in Green will do better in the major cricket competition.

The announcement was made a day after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed the teams for the World Cup, tri-series in New Zealand, and home series against England.

The team for the upcoming event, according to the ex-cricketer, would be similar to the one that competed in the just finished Asia Cup with a few minor adjustments.

Javed said, “I don’t think that this squad can do well in the World Cup.”

But he said that he was pleased that middle-order batsman Shan Masood had been chosen by the PCB to replace Fakhar Zaman.

Our greatest issue is in the middle order, and Shan Masood has recently improved and played well, he continued.

Aqib made a prediction regarding the batting order, stating that Masood will bat at number three and that the skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan will keep their spots.

The Pakistani team’s performance at the Asia Cup, where it lost to Sri Lanka in the championship game primarily due to a weakness in the middle order, drew criticism.

Aqib said, “If you (selection committee) have any issue with Shoaib Malik and Sarfaraz Ahmed, you should introduce new talent.”

He also questioned Haider Ali’s selection for the World Cup team.

“Pakistan’s bowling is good but the team will face problems in batting.”
