The seasoned Portuguese forward gave a candid interview on TalkTV last week, saying he felt “betrayed” by the team and had little regard for new boss Erik ten Hag, which laid the groundwork for his departure from Old Trafford.

Ronaldo could not possibly go back, and United announced on Tuesday that they were parting ways with one of their all-time best players by “mutual consent, with immediate effect.”

While at the World Cup in Qatar, Ronaldo released a statement of his own in which he expressed his love for the team and stated that he was ready to take on a new challenge.

In his interview with Piers Morgan, the 37-year-old was caustic about the club’s controversial US owners in addition to attacking United and Ten Hag.

Ronaldo claimed that the Glazer family, who purchased the team in 2005 and burdened it with enormous debt, were more interested in United’s potential for financial gain than its performance.

After releasing the announcement confirming Ronaldo’s departure from the club, United later announced that the Americans were thinking about going out of business.

Rio Ferdinand, a former defender for Manchester United and Ronaldo’s teammate, claimed that both parties had achieved their goals.

Ferdinand told the BBC that Cristiano “clearly did the interview with the attitude that he wasn’t happy and wanted to get out of the club.” “He was pretty explicit about that.

“I believe Erik ten Hag also obtained his objectives in this circumstance. Now that everyone is content, we can continue.

Future options?
The issue for Ronaldo is that, despite his desire to leave Old Trafford, top English and European teams decided not to make a move for him during the summer transfer window.

Now that they have seen his unpredictable behaviour, they will probably be even more cautious.

Even though he is a declining force, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who recently scored his 700th club goal, nonetheless received a huge rumoured weekly salary at United of roughly £500,000 ($595,000).

He apparently spoke with Bayern Munich, and a tearful comeback to Sporting Lisbon, where he rose through the youth ranks, has also been suggested.

Ronaldo claims a Saudi Arabian team made him a $360 million two-year offer, and he continues to insist that big European clubs are interested in signing him.

A move to the United States is conceivable if a European team does not approach.

The Portugal star established himself during his first stint at Old Trafford, growing from a young man of raw talent into one of the most lethal attackers in the world.

After six years at United, where he won three Premier League championships and the Champions League, he left for Real Madrid, where he established himself as the team’s all-time leading scorer and won the Champions League four more times.

Before making a spectacular return to Manchester last year, Ronaldo spent three years at Juventus starting in 2018.

But he joined a team that had long since lost its position as England’s best team and had not won a trophy since 2017.

With just three goals in all competitions this season, Ronaldo has been a minor player compared to his third-place finish in the Premier League scoring charts last year (18 goals).

He was recently punished for refusing to step in as a stand-in as the relationship started to fall apart.

Ronaldo’s final opportunity to capture the championship and cap off a stellar career is unquestionably the World Cup, where Portugal opens their campaign on Thursday against Ghana.

It might also be his last chance to demonstrate that he is still capable of giving his best effort.
