Brentford’s Ivan Toney faces more FA betting charges
LONDON: The Football Association has charged Brentford striker Ivan Toney with breaking betting rules 30 more times.
The 26-year-old was already facing a long ban when he was charged last month with breaking 232 betting laws over the course of four years.
Even though Toney scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season, he did not make the England team for the FIFA World Cup 2022.
On Tuesday, Brentford said, “Our private discussions with Ivan and his legal representatives on this matter continue.”
Toney has until January 4 to respond to the new FA allegations of misconduct, which are based on alleged violations of FA Rule E8, which says that players can’t share confidential information to bet on games or place bets on games.
If they turn out to be true, he could be suspended for a long time. Kieran Trippier, an England defender, got a 10-week suspension from the FA in December 2020 for giving out information that let others bet on his move from Tottenham to Atletico Madrid.
Joey Barton, who played for Burnley at the time, was given an 18-month suspension in 2017.
After an appeal, the suspension was cut to 13 months. He said he had bet $1,260 on football over a ten-year period.
