After Cameroon’s historic 1-0 victory over Brazil in their World Cup Group G match on Friday, Cameroon manager Rigobert Song expressed his pride in his team, saying that he was proud of his men.

The Indomitable Lions were the first African side to ever defeat Brazil in the World Cup after a header from Vincent Aboubakar in stoppage time gave them the victory.

According to Xinhua’s reporting, Cameroon did not advance to the knockout stage in Qatar since they did not finish higher than third place in their group, which they finished below Brazil and Switzerland.

“We have a feeling of regret because this match showed that we could have done better in the first two games,” said Song, referring to a draw (3-3 against Serbia) and a loss (1-0 against Switzerland). “We have a feeling of regret because this match showed that we could have done better in the first two games.”

“But you have to try to see the bright side of things. The performance from tonight met all of our expectations. I’ve only recently taken charge of the group, but already we’re making headway.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with my team. We are working hard to overcome the Lions’ stubbornness. After demonstrating that we are capable of being a good team, the next step is to make sure that we continue to get better.

He freely stated that, at first, he was unaware of the significance of what his team had accomplished.

“I wasn’t even aware that it was such a significant win in history. My team deserves congratulations, and their performance [earlier in the competition] demonstrates that they were capable of doing even better. It’s a bummer that we have to leave now, but we’re going to keep plugging away at this thing until we get better.
