  • Brazilian striker Rodrygo, 21, is a complete striker who can play on the left, right, as a No. 10 or as a false nine.
  • He appears to be in a good position to eventually get his first Selecao start after his crucial second-half display against Switzerland on Monday
  • Perhaps even filling Neymar’s playmaker position

After winning 2-0 against Serbia in their World Cup debut, the Brazilians defeated the Swiss 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Casemiro.

Prior to their encounter against Cameroon on Friday, Brazil have already advanced to the round of 16, and coach Tite is likely to make changes given that Neymar is still recovering from an ankle injury received in their opening match.

Rodrygo, a Real Madrid player, has the potential to become one of Brazil’s biggest stars, according to Casemiro.

“He was given the ability to play football by God. It’s lovely to watch him perform “the midfielder for Manchester United, who once shared the field with Rodrygo at Real Madrid, revealed last week.

Even with Neymar out with an injury and Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho left off the roster, the five-time World Cup champions have an embarrassing amount of attacking talent.

Rodrygo has opposition from Raphinha, Antony, Vinicius Junior, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Pedro, and Richarlison.

The youngest member of Tite’s World Cup team, though, has a significant advantage over the others.

The son of Brazilian assistant coach Tite Bachi, Matheus Bachi, recently claimed, “We’ve seen him playing as a false nine, a 10, the ‘Neymar’ of Real Madrid, with the potential to play on the left and right.

He is a chameleon, but a highly effective one at doing all of these tasks.

This season, Rodrygo’s versatility became clear when Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti began utilising him in the middle of the attack alongside striker Karim Benzema rather than using his speed on the wings.

He is a unique forward that is capable of playing in any position. He is proficient one on one and quick, intelligent off the ball, according to Ancelotti.

Rodrygo has 19 club games this season with seven goals and five assists.

His two late goals for Real versus Manchester City in the Champions League semifinal last year changed the outcome of the match, as the Merengue went on to win the competition.

Rodrygo’s first club, Santos, which also produced Pele and Neymar, was well recognised for its versatility.

In the academy, he was a No. 10, but in 2017, he switched to the left flank to make his first team debut.

Prior to switching to a more central position, Neymar used to play on the left. In 2017, Jair Ventura, who handed Rodrygo his Santos debut, decided to hone Rodrygo’s skills “on the right, in the centre, and as a false nine,” he said to ESPN in 2019.

Rodrygo has benefited from his ability to play throughout the attacking line.

He relocated to Spain in 2019 after Real Madrid became aware of his performances.

He has excellent education and professionalism. He’s really intelligent; once you teach something to him, he learns it right away,” said Ventura, the ex-player and son of Jairzinho, who won the 1970 World Cup with Pele.

Rodrygo has made nine appearances since his debut in Brazil three years ago, all of which have been as a replacement.

In a 4-0 victory over Paraguay in World Cup qualifying, he scored one goal and has since added one assist to his resume.

And he is certain that he will be able to fill the gap left by Neymar.

“I am at ease playing in every front-row position. I’ve worn the No. 10 jersey while competing in the younger divisions, but senior coaches have just recently begun using it, according to Rodrygo.

Neymar, our current No. 10, is already present, but who can predict the future?

The future might already be here.
