ICC Awards 2022 are scheduled to begin with announcement of candidates

• International Cricket Council has released schedule for the ICC Awards 2022.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today unveiled the schedule for the ICC Awards 2022, which will honour the top cricketers who distinguished themselves internationally throughout the calendar year.

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand saw exhilarating play, and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia featured amazing drama. The year also witnessed numerous noteworthy moments and performances throughout the international game.

The coveted Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year and the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year are among the 13 categories that make up the ICC Awards 2022. These awards recognise players who excelled in particular formats as well as across multiple formats.

Shortlist Announcements

Between December 28 and December 30, nine of the 13 categories’ shortlists will be made public via official ICC means. Four names will be on each shortlist.

The ICC Emerging Men’s and Women’s Cricketers of the Year shortlists will be unveiled on December 28.

The nominations for the Men’s and Women’s ODI Cricketers of the Year and the Men’s and Women’s T20I Cricketers of the Year will be revealed on December 29.

The final shortlists for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year, the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year, and the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year will be announced on December 30.

A specialised group of cricket writers and broadcasters created shortlists for these categories, identifying the top players based on statistics and overall accomplishments in international cricket over the calendar year.

Voting

The voting for the ICC Awards 2022 will then start in the first few days of January 2023, and a larger group of international media representatives—the ICC Voting Academy—will submit their choices alongside international cricket fans, who will once again be encouraged to vote for their favourites at icc-cricket.com

The winner in each of these nine categories will be decided by adding the results of the ICC Voting Academy picks and the fan vote.

In 2022, the ICC Associate Cricketers of the Year for men and women will also be chosen from the competition. These categories won’t have shortlists, and the ICC Voting Academy will be the only one to decide the winners.

The ICC Spirit of Cricket Award is another honour presented as a part of the ICC Awards. This award recognises an international cricket play-related action, event, gesture, or decision made during the year that best exemplifies the game’s spirit. The ICC chooses the winning entry.

The outstanding umpire from the calendar year will be honoured with the ICC Umpire of the Year Award. Votes from the Emirates Elite Panel of Match Referees and participating captains from ICC Full Member countries are tallied to determine this award.

The ICC Voting Academy will also select five ICC Teams of the Year, recognising the top XIs from the men’s and women’s international cricket stages, in addition to the individual honours.

Winners of the ICC Awards 2022 will be revealed later in January 2023 when the voting session has ended.
