Mitchell Marsh, an all-rounder who bowls fast for Australia, said that he had been struggling with an ankle problem for a year before having surgery that rendered him inactive until the Test tour of India next year.
Marsh thinks he made the right decision to have surgery, as the problem made playing cricket for him a little less enjoyable over the previous 12 months. The surgery was performed to remove loose bone fragments and repair cartilage of Marsh‘s problematic left ankle. He is now on the road to recovery.
“I probably carried the injuries for about a year. Although it’s certainly not ideal, most guys carry stuff throughout the entire year because cricket now takes place throughout the year, according to Marsh.
“I want to love playing cricket and, ideally, have a long career left, and mine sort of got to the point where (cricket) sort of got a bit unenjoyable to be honest. I’m incredibly happy I got it done because I believe it will help me play as an all-around player for at least the next five years. You may not realise how sore you were at times until you stop playing. I want to represent Australia in as much cricket as I can, and I want to be totally healthy to play as an all-arounder.
George Bailey, the chief selector, expressed optimism that Marsh will recover in time to play in Australia’s three-match ODI series against India, which would take place on March 17, 19, and 22, following the conclusion of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Ahmedabad.
For the time being, he joins Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell in suffering a strange injury after Australia was unable to advance to the T20 World Cup semifinals at home. Maxwell fell and fractured his left fibula in an unintentional tumble at a friend’s house.
Marsh stated that he is doing well following his operation, however he acknowledged that missing the Perth Scorchers’ campaign in the current Big Bash League season has saddened him (BBL).
“I’ve had my operation for a few weeks now. It’s obviously frustrating to miss the Big Bash since I enjoy representing the Scorchers and this time of year is one of the best for cricket. I am definitely feeling lot better now, therefore it was the right decision to get the operation, he stated.
