A spectacular new United Cup trophy made of sterling silver with a 24-carat gold plating hallmark was unveiled on Tuesday at Cottesloe Beach in Perth, Western Australia.

Ten days before the inaugural competition, the new medals were unveiled by the Western Australian Minister for Sport, the Hon. David Templeman MLA, the Grand Slam mixed doubles champion Casey Dellacqua, United Cup Tournament Director Stephen Farrow, and United Cup Perth General Manager Brett Patten.

When the top athletes in the world come together and compete for the United Cup side by side in Brisbane, Perth, and Sydney from December 29 to January 8, 2023, it will demonstrate equality at the highest level of sport.

The hand-crafted United Cup, which stands 50 cm tall, has 36 sweeping rods to represent the 18-country mixed doubles partnerships, each of which was individually formed.

“We desired a trophy for the United Cup that would become instantly recognisable and extremely special. Additionally, we wished for something that would truly represent the union of the male and female players “Atptour.com cited Farrow, the tournament director, as saying.

The tennis ball’s movement and ability to alter speed and direction are depicted by the rods’ passage from the plinth to the lip of the bowl. The trophy’s reflecting surfaces effectively represent the vigour and excitement of the game.

In addition, Farrow noted, “This event is ultimately about bringing together the finest male and best female players to play for their country. The bowl is symbolic of a trophy meant for sharing and bringing people together.”

Thomas Lyte, a former head of the Commonwealth and holder of a Royal Warrant as a silversmith and goldsmith to Her Late Majesty The Queen, created the United Cup.

The Laver Cup, awards for the ATP Finals, the FA Cup, the Rugby World Cup, and the Six Nations Championship are just a few of the classic trophies they are best known for designing, creating, and restoring.

The United Cup was designed by Australian Trevor Brown, Head Silverware Designer at Thomas Lyte, who is headquartered in East Gippsland, a rural area of Victoria. A group of ten expert silversmiths and goldsmiths then meticulously manufactured the trophy in their fine silver workshops in London. For the creation of this masterpiece, more than 400 craft hours were required.

The Platinum Jubilee Commemorative Mark on the United Cup’s trademark furthers the incredible tale of the trophy. This unique commemorative mark, created to honour the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, will only be offered to commissions hallmarked in London in 2022.

The United Cup group stage will take place at Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane, RAC Arena in Perth, and Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney. Two groups of three nations will compete against one another in each host city. Each city’s group winners will compete for one of three semi-final slots.

The United Cup Final Four will be held in Sydney from January 6 to 8 with three City Champions moving on. The quartet will be completed by the following-best team from the group stage.

Before the first champion is declared, the United Cup trophy will make stops in all of the host cities.
