When the Socceroos were defeated 2-1 by Argentina in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16, Arnold’s contract officially came to an end.

After four years in charge of the Australian national team, the 59-year-old, who has reportedly received job offers from Major League Soccer (MLS), is now a free agent.

For the first time ever, the Australian men went on a winning streak in Qatar, and Craig Goodwin’s goal against Argentina marked the Socceroos’ first triumph in the knockout round.

Despite the victory, FA Chief Executive James Johnson stated that the organisation would take its time making a decision regarding Arnold’s future, with a final decision pending the results of a thorough investigation into the campaign, according to Xinhua.

He told the Australian Associated Press, “We look forward to discussing our plans for the next World Cup cycle with Graham when he returns to Australia following a well-deserved break.”

The board of Football Australia will be presented with this comprehensive review for consideration in the upcoming weeks. Arnold, a former Socceroos captain, managed the team twice in a row in addition to having productive runs with Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC in the men’s Australian A-League.

Arnold responded when asked about his future following the defeat to Argentina that he had not given it much thought and was looking forward to a break following a World Cup campaign that started in qualifying in 2019.
