Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, has spoken out since receiving the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy on Thursday for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year for 2022.

In 2022, he scored 2598 runs in 44 matches at an average of 54.12, including eight century and 15 half-centuries.

“Winning this prize is an honour for me. “I can’t convey how happy I am to be a member of an illustrious list of icons who have received this honour,” Azam remarked.

“This award belongs to my family, teammates, and fans since they have always supported me,” he continued.

Azam also noted that his constant performance throughout the year contributed to his winning of this award.

“This honour requires a lot of hard work because you have to perform consistently in both home and away settings,” he explained. “There is a lot of cricket going on these days, and you have to flip between forms rapidly. However, this improves a player’s performance since he becomes mentally strong while also maintaining adequate fitness focus.”

The ICC was also congratulated by the prolific right-hander for recognising his efforts.

“Winning this award gives me confidence and I will attempt to continue performing in the same manner in the future as well. “I’d also like to thank the ICC for considering me for this honour,” he ended.

Azam was already selected captain of the ICC ODI Team of the Year for 2022.

It should be mentioned that Azam captained the ICC ODI Team of the Year in 2021.

The winners of the ICC Awards are determined by the results of the ICC Voting Academy, which includes a broader range of worldwide cricket journalists and broadcasters, with cricket fans also voting via the ICC’s digital channels.

The awards were valid from January 1 to December 31, 2022.
