Barcelona defeated Getafe 1-0 to increase their lead over the league’s second-place team Getafe and collect three more points thanks to Pedri’s first-half goal.

Real Madrid, who also defeated Athletic Club 2-0 later on Sunday, is in second place and three points behind Barcelona with 44 points.

Getafe, on the other hand, dropped to 16th position and is now tied with Celta Vigo and Real Valladolid in 18th place with 17 points, just above the relegation zone due to a higher goal differential.

Head coach Xavi Hernandez made numerous changes to his starting lineup in preparation for Wednesday’s Copa del Rey quarterfinal encounter against Real Sociedad, resting key players such as Robert Lewandowski, Ronald Araujo, and Frenkie de Jong.

In the 34th minute, Pedri broke the deadlock by latching onto Raphinha’s ball and directing it into the back of the net.

Barcelona controlled the opponents throughout the game, controlling the ball for around 70% of the time. However, with only four shots on target during the game, the Catalan Giants did not create many obvious chances to extend their lead.

However, seasoned players Karim Benzema and Toni Kross scored to send Real Madrid home with a win at San Mames.

With a brilliant left-footed strike from the middle of the box in the 23rd minute, Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema gave his team the lead. Toni Kroos later increased the lead with a long-range drive.

Likewise, fifth-placed Villareal defeated Girona 1-0 at El Madrigal thanks to a late penalty kick from Dani Parejo in stoppage time.
