Bismah Maroof says ‘The highlight of our World Cup 2022 was victory over West Indies’

• Pakistan women’s cricket team featured in 32 internationals (13 ODIs and 19 T20Is).
• The team won five of six ODIs against Sri Lanka and Ireland at home.
• They ended their 13-year-long wait for World Cup victory over West Indies.

The Women’s ODI World Cup success by Pakistan over the West Indies, according to team captain Bismah Maroof, was one of 2022’s high points.

In addition to hosting Sri Lanka and Ireland at home for white-ball matches, Pakistan’s women’s team played in 32 internationals (13 ODIs and 19 T20Is), as well as the Women’s ODI World Cup, Women’s T20 competition at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, and the Women’s T20 Asia Cup.

In the ODI World Cup encounter at Seddon Park, Hamilton, experienced off-spin all-rounder Nida Dar scooped up four wickets as Pakistan defeated West Indies by eight wickets in a rain-shortened 20-overs per side contest, ending their 13-year drought for a World Cup success.

Bismah made headlines at the beginning of the ODI World Cup in New Zealand when she announced her return to international cricket before her team’s tournament opener against India at Mount Maunganui while holding her daughter Fatima in one arm.

One of her team members was seen pushing the baby’s cradle in the same image. When she hit 50 in a game versus Australia, she even performed a baby-rocking celebration. On January 16, 18, and 21, the Pakistan women’s squad will play three one-day internationals (ODIs) against Australia.

On January 24, 26, and 29, three T20Is will be played against the world champions. The team will then fly from Melbourne to South Africa to compete in the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023.

Pakistan is in Group 2 of the main competition with England, India, Ireland, and the West Indies. Pakistan’s first game will be against India at Newlands in Cape Town on February 12, and their second will be against Ireland there on February 15.
