Khawaja, Head back for Australia’s Ashes campaign
SYDNEY: Veteran Usman Khawaja and middle-order batsman Travis Head were included in Australia's squad...
Nic Maddison‘s knee injury may have compounded the Melbourne Renegades’ fourth straight BBL loss. The Renegades lost by five wickets to the red-hot Perth Scorchers on Sunday at Marvel Stadium.
The home team had a chance because to Aaron Finch’s 65 off 48; he led them to 155 for 6 in their 20 overs. However, Scorchers quick AJ Tye took 3 for 32 to keep the score low. Yet a measured sprint to the finish line was made possible by Josh Inglis and Cameron Bancroft, who led Scorchers to victory.
Despite the best efforts of Renegades fast Kane Richardson, the Scorchers were able to complete the task with two balls to spare. It was Scorchers’ fourth consecutive victory, solidifying their position as league leaders.
Having allowed only three runs in his previous five innings, Maddinson’s slump deepened as he was thrown out for a first-ball duck. As if it wasn’t bad enough for him, in the second over of Scorchers’ chase, he twisted his left leg while fielding and damaged his knee.
The 31-year-old went down hard, and after being checked out for a while, he was eventually driven from the field. The Renegades are sending Maddinson to get scanned in order to find out the full extent of his injury.
Peter Handscomb, the wicketkeeper, was taken out of the game after 16 overs due to the impact of the scorching heat.
