Sussex signs Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan form 2023 Vitality T20 Blast

• Sussex has signed Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan for this year’s T20 Blast.
• The 24-year-old will join Yorkshire who he played with last summer.
• Sussex is also interested in signing Steven Smith and Sean Abbott.

The Pakistani all-rounder Shadab Khan has committed to representing Sussex in this year’s Vitality T20 Blast. The club confirmed the news through Twitter;

Shadab is anticipated to be available for the remainder of the Blast, as per reports. Sussex has been seeking to add a number of foreign players. The 24-year-old will play for Sussex after representing Yorkshire in the league last summer.

Sean Abbott may also join him at Hove, while the team is also interested in signing Steven Smith to a short-term Championship contract.

“Shadab will provide amazing experience in our middle order, he is someone who has played all around the world and has experienced many situations, which can only benefit our team,” Sussex bowling coach, James Kirtley, said.

“He really does provide flexibility to our side as he can score runs and take wickets in crucial moments, but more than anything else he is an experienced head that Ravi [Bopara] can go to as captain to look for support when making crucial in-game decisions.

“I know that he will have a massive impact on our team this year.”

With the aid of his leg spin, Shadab has amassed 258 wickets in 225 T20 appearances—98 of them for his nation—and played a significant role in franchise league competition. He has played in the Big Bash, Caribbean Premier League, and Bangladesh Premier League in addition to leading Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League.

Rashid Khan’s affiliation with Sussex, which dates back to 2018, appears to be coming to an end with his signing. Rashid was just named the captain of Afghanistan’s T20 team, hence his participation in the series against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh had no bearing on his availability.
