Wout Weghorst, who joined Manchester United from Besiktas, has stated that he is “eager” to exhibit his talent in the Premier League.

Weghorst joined United on a loan deal until the end of the season after Burnley cut short his time at Besiktas.

Following his relegation from Burnley, the 30-year-old scored nine goals in 18 appearances in Turkey, but he is desperate to establish himself in England’s top flight after scoring only twice in his previous 20 Premier League games.

“It wasn’t done, it wasn’t finished for me. It didn’t go as planned the first time, and I’m eager to prove myself and contribute to the squad “Weghorst explained.

“Of course, we’re on the right track now. It’s been a really fantastic couple of weeks, months, actually, here, and I just want to contribute and do my best and give my all for the club, and I aim to be a part of the successful (direction) we’re headed.”

In 16 league games with Besiktas, Weghorst led the squad with eight goals and four assists.

The striker made headlines last month when he scored two late goals for the Netherlands in their FIFA World Cup 2022 quarter-final encounter against Argentina.

Weghorst admitted that the phone contact inquiring about a possible transfer to Old Trafford startled him.

“My agent contacted me actually for the first time and I was with my girl, and she was a little bit horrified because she saw my face and I was like, ‘Oof’. So, sure, that was a memorable occasion.

“For me, (to play for) the biggest club is, of course, amazing, and as I’ve always said as a football player, and also as a human being, the level I am at now, the (experience) that I have, I am ready for it. Of sure, this is the time to take on this enormous undertaking.”

United, which is fourth in the Premier League standings, travels to league leaders Arsenal on Sunday after visiting Selhurst Park in the middle of the week.
