While Kyrie Irving was not included on the Brooklyn Nets’ injury report, rumours that the guard was looking for a trade on Friday afternoon sparked a huge discussion about how long he wanted to play for the organisation.

When they visit the Nets on Saturday night, the Washington Wizards are intent on maintaining their recent progress in the Eastern Conference playoff battle.

A star asked to be traded out of Brooklyn for the third time in the past 13 months. James Harden’s request was granted thanks to a Ben Simmons-for-Philadelphia 76ers trade. After being swept in four games by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs, Kevin Durant then sought a trade before negotiating with the Boston Celtics during a contentious summer.

Durant wanted out for a number of reasons, one of which being the team’s failure to succeed after his left knee injury. The Nets dropped 16 of 21 games during his absence, which lasted from mid-January to early March of last year. This included a run of 11 straight losses. Brooklyn is 4-7 this year despite the star forward’s continuing right knee injury absence.

After Brooklyn’s dismal performance in a 139-96 defeat to Boston on Wednesday, Irving reportedly requested a trade. The Nets, who had won four of their previous six games, were outscored 46-16 in the opening period and fell behind by as many as 49 points.

“I told the group I’m disappointed in the fact that I did not have them ready to play,” Brooklyn coach Jacque Vaughn said after his team allowed a season-worst 26 3-pointers. The Celtics also hit 57.6% of their shots overall. “I take the blame for all of it. I’ve gotta do my part.”

It’s unclear whether the Nets are prepared for one of the league’s recent hot teams, especially with three games left before Thursday’s trade deadline and Irving looking for a deal. He might become available for free after the season.

The Nets’ worst performance before to Wednesday was a 153-121 loss to Sacramento on November 15, and Brooklyn went 19-3 after that.

Between November 4 and December 12, there were three games between Brooklyn and Washington, all of which the Wizards lost. The final two of those losses occurred during a 10-game losing streak, bringing their record to 11-20. Since that time, Washington has gone 13-7 to move up from a tie for 12th place in the East to a tie for ninth.

Friday night’s 124-116 home loss to the Portland Trail Blazers was one of Washington’s defeats since that 10-game losing skid. The Wizards lost a 20-point lead and had their season-best six-game winning streak snapped. Portland made 17 3-pointers.

Kyle Kuzma of Washington stated after the Wizards allowed more than 15 3-pointers for the third time in the past 12 games, “That was a master class on how to lose a game.”

The Wizards had a 36-19 advantage after the first quarter, but they were defeated by 39 points in the third. Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis had strong nights, but Washington’s collapse derailed both.

After averaging 18.5 points in his first six games back from a torn left hamstring, Beal posted a season-high 34 points. In his second game back after missing the previous three due to an ankle ailment, Porzingis scored 32 points after scoring 17 on Monday.

The Nets may be without Simmons (sore left knee) and T.J. Warren (left shin contusion) on Saturday, even if Beal and Porzingis are anticipated to play.
