Tom Brady, the renowned quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl champion, announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday after 23 seasons.

Brady announced his retirement on this day a year ago, but six weeks later changed his mind, citing “unfinished business” in the game.

He won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and will win another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021.

Brady’s final season ended with a 31-14 playoff loss to the Buccaneers last month.

“I’m officially retiring. I know it was a huge deal the last time, so when I got up this morning, I figured I’d simply push record and let you guys know first “he stated in an Instagram video.

“It will not be long. You get one very emotional retirement essay per year, and I used mine last year.

“Thank you very much to everyone who has helped me, including my family, friends, teammates, and competition. I could go on and on since there are so many.

“Thank you for allowing me to experience my ultimate fantasy. I wouldn’t alter a single thing. I adore you all.”

Brady was selected by the Patriots with the 199th choice in the 2000 Draft, and he went on to lead them to six Super Bowl titles.

He joined the Bucs in 2020, and in his first season there, he helped them win the title, earning him his sixth consecutive MVP honour for the game.

Brady, regarded as the GOAT (greatest of all time) of American football, led his team to the playoffs in 20 of his 21 seasons as a starter.

With 12,050 pass attempts, 7,753 pass completions, 89,214 passing yards, and 649 touchdown passes, he leads the NFL in all four statistical categories during the regular season.
