Pakistan football team will take on Maldives in friendly match
Pakistan's professional football squad will play Maldives in an international friendly match....
On Tuesday, the Maldives defeated Pakistan 1-0 in a friendly match at the Laamu Gan Zone Stadium.
Ibrahim Aisam scored from a corner in the 20th minute to put the home team ahead.
Pakistan had some chances in the second half but were unable to equalise and ultimately lost the game.
Following years of infighting among various groups that kept the sport stalled and FIFA suspending the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) twice since 2017, the Pakistan team is in the process of rebuilding.
Pakistan had only played two games in the previous three and a half years. Pakistan returned to the international circuit at the end of last year with a friendly against Nepal.
It should be noted that Pakistan will compete in both the SAFF Cup and the World Cup Qualifiers this year.
According to media reports citing a tweet from India’s football governing body (AIFF), India will host the SAFF Cup in June. Previously, Dhaka was supposed to host the event.
The World Cup qualifiers are scheduled for the end of this year.
Pakistan’s football authorities also want to use the FIFA window in June to manage some matches with strong nations in order to give the elite squad enough exposure.
It is highly likely that the team that will compete in the FIFA window in June will also compete in the SAFF Cup, which is scheduled to take place from June 20 to July 3.
