In the Pakistan Super League, Rilee Rossouw’s unstoppable batting helped Multan Sultans break their previous run-chase record (PSL).

Another record was established when Multan defeated Peshawar Zalmi in the 27th game of the current PSL 8. Only a few days prior, Quetta Gladiators chased down a record 241 runs for the opposition.

Rossouw excelled, breaking his own PSL record for fastest century. Only 41 balls were thrown to the left-handed batter, who scored 100. In 2020, he played against the Quetta Gladiators and scored a century on 41 balls.

Multan was able to complete the enormous total chase with five balls remaining thanks to the left-handed batter’s 121 runs, which included 12 boundaries and eight sixes.

Peshawar claimed two early wickets in the regular skipper Babar Azam’s absence, who was unable to field owing to a fever. Nevertheless, Rossouw and Kieron Pollard combined to score 99 runs off just 43 balls, turning the game in their favour.

Multan reached that impressive amount with Pollard’s outstanding fifty-point performance. He scored 52 runs off 25 balls, including three boundaries and five maximums.

Anwar Ali ultimately scored the game-winning goal for Multan. Anwar, who today bowled the PSL’s equal second-most expensive stint, also helped his team out with the bat. He held on for 24 runs off just eight balls to win the match.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Arshad Iqbal, Wahab Riaz, and Saim Ayub each shared a wicket for Peshawar, while Azmatullah Omarzai took two wickets.

Babar and Saim, Peshawar’s openers, had earlier set the stage for their team to post yet another impressive total.

Together, Babar and Saim scored 134 runs to enable Peshawar record 242-6 in 20 overs, the second-highest total in the PSL this season.

Saim once again led from the front, scoring fifty with a higher strike rate than the captain. Saim made 58 off 33 while Babar made 73 runs, including nine boundaries and two maximums.

Mohammad Haris, the wicket-keeper for Peshawar, scored 35 runs in just 11 balls, adding significant runs to the team’s high total. In the end, Tom Kohler-Cadmore scored 38 runs off 18 balls, which was a powerful performance.

With four wickets, Abbas Afridi continued to be Multan’s preferred bowler.
