USA’s MLC will be held at Space Center Houston

• The first-ever draught for US MLC will be held on Monday.
• Six teams will be selected through a draught.
• The Washington Freedom are the second pick.

On Monday, the first-ever draught for the inaugural season of the United States’ Major League Cricket (MLC) will be held at the NASA Johnson Space Center’s Space Center Houston (Sunday – CST).

Six teams will be selected through a draught for the tournament, which will take place this summer.

Ahead of the draught, several MLC teams have revealed their team names and logos, as well as high-performance partnerships with some of the world’s leading cricket entities. A media release on Sunday stated that select overseas star players for each time will be announced soon.

The Seattle Orcas have the first pick in the Domestic Player Draft, thanks to a randomised order draw held on March 13 at the Westin Oaks Houston in front of team representatives.

The Washington Freedom are the second pick, followed by the New York franchise, San Francisco Unicorns, Los Angeles Knight Riders, and Texas MLC Team (to be named later). Teams will choose nine domestic players to serve as the foundation of their rosters.

The draught will be held in “snake order,” which means that the team that picks last in the first round will have the first pick in the second round. The draught will consist of nine rounds. Pick trading is not permitted.

In rounds one through five, each team has three minutes to make their selections, and in rounds six through nine, each team has two minutes. A rookie player will be chosen in the ninth round (Under-23). If a team selects a U-23 player in rounds one through eight, that team must still select a U-23 player in the ninth round.

Following the conclusion of the first half of the Minor League Cricket (MiLC) season, a second round of the draught will take place in early July, allowing teams to select one additional player based on MiLC performance.

That player has been added to the team’s roster. An additional two U-23 players will be selected to serve in development roles for each squad, providing additional opportunities for young players to rub shoulders with some of the world’s best T20 cricketers and coaching staff.

The league’s historic first match will take place on July 13, 2023, at Grand Prairie Stadium, a newly constructed Major League Cricket venue in Grand Prairie, Texas.

The 2023 season will consist of 19 matches spread out over 18 days, culminating in the first-ever MLC championship final on July 30, 2023. More details on the MLC schedule and broadcast will be announced later.

Cricket fans in India can watch the MLC draught live on Sports18-1, with Jio Cinema serving as the show’s digital home.

The draught will also be broadcast on Pakistan’s A Sports TV. Fans will also be able to follow the draught live via a special show to be broadcast globally on the MLC Network YouTube channel and ESPN Cricinfo homepage.
