In an announcement made today, Formula One revealed its schedule for the 2024 season, consisting of 24 races, with a unique twist of two races to be held on Saturdays. The opening races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have been scheduled for Saturdays to accommodate Ramadan.

The 2024 season aims to make up for the disappointments faced in the current season, which had originally planned for a record 24 races but had to cancel the Chinese Grand Prix due to Covid restrictions. Additionally, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Italy, originally set to take place in Imola, was also called off at the last minute due to severe flooding in the region.

The Formula One 2024 season is scheduled to commence in February and conclude in December, featuring both the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia races held on Saturdays to accommodate Ramadan.

Notably, the iconic Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps has been preserved despite previous concerns about its status due to the emergence of more financially lucrative venues.

Formula One has also made adjustments to its calendar, aiming to enhance regionalization, reduce logistical challenges, and improve sustainability. The Japanese Grand Prix has been rescheduled to April, while Azerbaijan has been moved to September. Additionally, Qatar now takes place just before the season finale in Abu Dhabi, set for early December.

“This calendar creates a better flow of races in certain regions,” said Formula One on its web site, before adding it was “being realistic to the fact that as a world championship, with climatic and contractual constraints, there will always be travel required that cannot be completely regionalised.”
