When Travis Head rejoins the team, Mitchell Marsh of Australia is prepared to drop to number three.

The all-round player could not, however, confirm if opener Head will be available for Wednesday’s World Cup showdown against the Netherlands.

Despite suffering a left-hand fracture in South Africa last month, Head has returned to the team in New Delhi, where the reigning champions will be looking for their third straight victory in five games.

Marsh, who recently made 121 and 52 in his two tournament appearances, stated that Australia would decide whether or not to play Head later on Tuesday.

“He looked good, a bit of range-hitting last night,” Marsh told reporters. “He says the hand feels good. So, I’m sure if he’s fit, he’ll be available for selection in the team.”

Marsh would have to move down to number three with Head’s return as David Warner’s opening partner, but the all-rounder acknowledged it would be a comfortable role for him.

“Very happy to go back down to three. I’ve obviously batted there a lot over the last couple of years, so I feel really comfortable at three.

“And if and when Heady comes back in, I think that’s the best position for me to play for this team.”

Focusing on the challenge at hand, Marsh stated that they could not afford to undervalue a Dutch team that had earlier in the competition shocked South Africa.

“We’ve said it multiple times now in this tournament this year, there’s absolutely no easy games.

“Tomorrow is no different for us. We respect the Netherlands, they’re playing some good cricket and that will be a tough challenge.”
