In a thrilling encounter at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the Netherlands emerged victorious over Bangladesh, defeating them by a substantial margin of 87 runs in the 28th match of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023.

This victory marked the second triumph for Scott Edwards and his Dutch squad in the ongoing tournament, following their earlier win against South Africa by 38 runs.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the Netherlands faced a rocky start, losing two wickets in the opening three overs. Nevertheless, a resilient partnership between Wesley Barresi and Colin Ackermann provided stability to their innings. Barresi, who scored an impressive 41 runs from 41 balls, including eight boundaries, played a pivotal role. However, his stay at the crease was cut short by Mustafizur Rahman.

Ackermann, on the other hand, contributed 18 runs from 33 deliveries. Skipper Scott Edwards led by example, anchoring the innings with a composed 68 runs from 89 balls, featuring six fours. Despite the initial setbacks, the Dutch side managed to post a competitive total of 230 runs in their allotted 50 overs while losing wickets.

Bangladesh’s captain, Shakib Al Hasan, showcased his prowess as the most economical bowler for his team, conceding only 37 runs in his 10-over spell and claiming a valuable wicket.

In their pursuit of the target, Bangladesh faced a formidable challenge as they were bowled out for just 142 runs by the Dutch side. The Netherlands’ bowlers displayed commendable skill and determination to secure their comprehensive victory. This result adds to the growing excitement in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 and sets the stage for more thrilling encounters in the tournament.
