Thomas Tuchel says ‘Manuel Neuer excited to make return after 10 months’

The 37-year-old goalkeeper suffered a leg injury while skiing in Germany last December and has been diligently working through rehabilitation to make a triumphant return.

Neuer’s desire to clear his mind following Germany’s World Cup group stage exit in Qatar led to his ill-fated skiing trip, with his last match taking place on December 1. Despite his return to training in August, his comeback was temporarily delayed when he was excluded from Bayern’s squad for the German DFB Cup match against SC Preussen Munster.

However, Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has now officially confirmed that Neuer will not only rejoin the squad but will also reclaim his spot in the starting XI during Bayern’s upcoming home game against Darmstadt on Saturday. Tuchel expressed his excitement and praised Neuer’s dedication to his recovery during a pre-match press conference, saying, “He’s excited, we’re excited. There’s probably a lot of other people excited about it too. It’s a special situation, I can feel his excitement and his class. He’s enjoying things right now and he can be proud of himself. His comeback is very impressive, I notice the difference in his condition.”

Tuchel went on to say, “I’m almost proud of the fact he’s come back, and I’m very confident he’ll quickly reach his top form. I see a whole new level in goalkeeper training; he’s in his own league.”

Manuel Neuer also shared his excitement about rejoining his teammates, stating, “I’m most excited about being back on the pitch with my teammates. There were a few setbacks along the way, but those can be expected with such a big and lengthy injury. But as a patient or a sportsperson, you don’t want to accept that and try to be even stronger than nature. That’s simply a part of such a big injury, and you just had to remain patient and keep working hard.”

Neuer expressed his eagerness to play in front of Bayern’s devoted fans once again and to hopefully celebrate a victory. His return is eagerly awaited by fans and football enthusiasts alike, marking a remarkable comeback after a long and challenging journey to full fitness.
