Australia denied heroes’ welcome after ICC World Cup 2023 win over India.
Criticism over tight schedule as team heads to India for T20I series four days post-final.
Michael Vaughan says players need more time to recover and celebrate.
Australia has been denied a full-scale heroes’ welcome home after their stunning six-wicket victory over India in the ICC World Cup 2023 final. The team has been forced to travel straight to India for a T20I series that starts just four days after the World Cup final.
The decision to schedule the T20I series so close to the World Cup final has been criticized by some, including former England captain Michael Vaughan. Vaughan believes that the players should have been given more time to recover and celebrate their victory.
“They should have been pulled out to allow them time to recover but importantly get back to Oz to enjoy the celebrations,” Vaughan wrote on social media.
The ICC World Cup 2023 trophy has also remained in India and will not be reunited with captain Pat Cummins until next week.
Australia’s next match against India will be on December 4 in Visakhapatnam.
