Medvedev Unveils Off-Season Agenda Following ATP Finals
In the aftermath of his semi-final defeat to Jannik Sinner at the ATP Finals in Turin, world No. 3 Daniil Medvedev has unveiled his plans for a well-deserved off-season break. The Russian tennis sensation, who enjoyed a stellar 2023 season, capturing five titles and reaching the finals of the Indian Wells Masters and the US Open, disclosed that he will be taking a trip to the islands with his wife.
Medvedev, known for his relentless work ethic on the court, expressed the need for a break after a hectic season, stating, “For me, that’s perfect after a hectic season. I love it.” His last off-season vacation dates back four to five years, and this time around, he plans to savor the break with his wife, despite her reservations about the islands.
The 2023 season saw Medvedev clinch titles at the Rotterdam Open, Qatar Open, Dubai Tennis Championship, Miami Open, and the Italian Open. However, with a semi-final loss at the ATP Finals, the Russian has decided to prioritize family time during the off-season.
Medvedev, a two-time Australian Open finalist in 2021 and 2022, revealed that he will skip any pre-Australian Open tournaments and return to competitive play directly at the Grand Slam event. This decision marks a departure from his usual routine, as he explained, “I’m probably going to play only the Australian Open. Going to try like this to have more of a vacation time than usual and start with a Slam straightaway, which is going to be new for me. But let’s see.”
Having featured in Grand Slam finals five times, including a victory at the 2021 US Open, Medvedev now sets his sights on securing his first Australian Open title after facing disappointment in two previous finals. As the tennis world eagerly awaits the return of the formidable Russian, his strategic and well-deserved off-season could potentially set the stage for a triumphant start to the 2024 season in Melbourne.
