Swiatek Says “Nyet” to Early Retirement: World No. 1 Plots Tennis Reign for Years to Come

In a recent interview with Grupa PZU, Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek talked about her potential retirement plans and made it clear that she has no plans to hang up her tennis shoes early.

Swiatek, who is only 22 years old, has already won three Grand Slam titles (the French Open and the US Open), and given her recent form and ascent to new heights, it is clear that she will go on to achieve glory.

When it came to retirement, Swiatek was questioned about athletes like Ash Barty, who gave up the game at age 25, and Novak Djokovic, who is still the best in the world at age 36. Swiatek responded by opening out about her feelings on the subject.

“I thought about it, but I admit that the answer to this question actually changes a bit. And with that, I don’t know how tired I feel of nature. I admit that I don’t analyze it too much because I don’t know what situation I will be in, for example, in 5 or 10 years. It’s hard to predict, really,” Swiatek stated regarding retirement.

“I’m the kind of person who likes to finish what I start, so I’ll probably play for a long time. But as I say, people change, life paths are different, and you don’t know what will happen in 10 years. That’s why I don’t think about it at all. For now, I’m focusing on getting some good training tomorrow,” she added.

One of tennis’s most devoted perfectionists, Swiatek is renowned for her methodical approach to the game. Even though it’s unclear how long she will play, her presence clearly improves the tennis scene. It is hoped that Swiatek will continue to adorn the courts for a very long time, adding to the depth and passion of the sport.
