PFF NC Chairman Haroon Malik (C) met FIFA and AFC officials in Thailand recently during the 34th AFC congress
The Normalisation Committee (NC) of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) announced on Thursday that FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the governing bodies of football, are pleased with the PFF’s progress in conducting elections.
The PFF NC had a meeting with officials from FIFA and AFC in Thailand during the recent 34th AFC congress.
“Chairman Haroon Malik, alongside NC members Muhammad Shahid Niaz Khokhar and Saud Hashimi, represented the Pakistan Football Federation Normalisation Committee at the 34th Asian Football Confederation (AFC) congress in Bangkok, Thailand,” was the statement released by PFF on its official Instagram account.
“NC Chairman Haroon Malik held discussions with FIFA and AFC officials, updating them on the progress towards the PFF elections. The FIFA and AFC officials expressed satisfaction with the advancement being made by the Pakistan Football Federation regarding transparently conducting the PFF elections,” the statement further added.
During the meeting, the PFF also had productive conversations with officials from other countries.
“The PFF delegation also engaged in dialogues with officials from Saudi Arabia and Qatar and also held fruitful discussions with the representatives from several countries including Palestine, Syria and Afghanistan,” the statement concluded.
The tenure of the PFF NC was originally set to end in March of this year, but FIFA extended their mandate until December 2024. This extension was granted to ensure the completion of the PFF elections, which are currently delayed at the district level.
FIFA states that the NC’s mandate includes managing the daily affairs of the PFF, ensuring the proper registration and scrutiny of football clubs in Pakistan, drafting and ratifying an electoral code for the PFF with the help of FIFA and the AFC, organizing elections at the district and then provincial levels, and conducting the elections for a new PFF executive committee.
The NC was initially established in September 2019 with Humza Khan as the chairman. However, after Humza’s resignation, Haroon Malik and his NC were appointed in January 2021.
