Novak Djokovic, the world’s top-ranked player, triumphed over Tallon Griekspoor, advancing to the Geneva Open semi-finals on Thursday.

Djokovic chose to take a wildcard entry into the ATP 250 event, aiming to build up momentum for the French Open, which starts on Sunday.

The 37-year-old Serbian secured a 7-5 6-1 win over his Dutch adversary and is set to compete against Tomas Machac from the Czech Republic in the semi-finals.

Djokovic managed to save four set points while being down 0-40 in the 10th game. He then broke the serve of the world number 27 and held his own serve to clinch the set.

In the second set, Djokovic found his rhythm, which only took 25 minutes, breaking serve thrice to become the oldest player to reach the semi-finals in the Geneva tournament’s history.

“I thought that the first set could have gone his way easily because I think he was the better player for most of the first set,” Djokovic stated.

“I was lucky to find some really good serves and from that moment onwards really played some good solid tennis. The second set was really good.”

The champion of 24 Grand Slam titles will proceed to Roland Garros following this tournament, where he will be defending the French Open title.

The Serbian player will kick off his journey in the year’s second Grand Slam against French wildcard entrant Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

Djokovic is yet to win a title in 2024.
