Aamer Jamal, the Pakistani all-rounder, has shed light on the contrasting captaincy styles of Babar Azam and Shan Masood.
Jamal, at 28, has experienced playing under both captains. His international debut came in 2022 in a T20I series against England, led by Babar Azam. The following year, he played his first Test match under Shan Masood’s leadership in Australia.
In a conversation with a local sports media outlet, Jamal shared his insights on Babar’s and Masood’s leadership techniques.
He noted that both captains have their unique perspectives and approaches, and he enjoys a positive rapport with each. He observed that Babar’s strategy leans towards the conservative side, while Masood adopts a more assertive stance. Jamal emphasized his comprehensive understanding of both captains’ methods.
“When it comes to captaincy, both have their own different mindsets. Shan Bhai’s approach is different, and Bobby Bhai’s approach is different. I have very good terms with both of them,” Jamal remarked.
“I have had good terms with Shan Bhai since the time I played first-class cricket. When I joined the Pakistan team for practice bowling, he treated me very well.
“Both have different mindsets. I believe Bobby Bhai is a bit defensive. He thinks about securing the team first. Shani Bhai is a bit aggressive as he believes if somebody throws a punch, you should too.
“As captains, both of them understand you and ask about your needs and what you require,” he further stated.
In his Test career, Jamal has played three matches, scoring 143 runs and taking 18 wickets, which includes two hauls of five wickets each.
