The experienced Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has described fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah as a ‘national treasure’ and the ‘8th Wonder of the World.’
Bumrah’s extraordinary efforts in the T20 World Cup 2024 will go down in history as one of the most remarkable solo endeavors ever seen in the competition.
With 15 wickets at an impressive average of 8.26 and a frugal economy rate of 4.17, Bumrah became the inaugural bowler to be honored with the Player of the Tournament accolade in the tournament’s nine editions.
At a notable gathering at the Wankhede, host Gaurav Kapoor questioned Kohli about endorsing a petition to recognize Jasprit Bumrah as a national treasure. “I am thinking of signing a petition to declare Jasprit Bumrah as a national treasure. Will you sign it?,” he inquired. “I will sign it right now,” was Kohli’s immediate reply.
Kohli further expressed, “I am sure like, everyone in this stadium, we also felt that – man, is it going to slip away? What I want everyone to do is applaud a guy, who brought us back in the tournament again, and again, and again. A huge shoutout to Jasprit Bumrah. We are lucky that he plays for us.”
It’s noteworthy that Team India celebrated in Mumbai, journeying from the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) to the Wankhede Stadium.
The streets were packed with fans, especially along Marine Drive, where they lit up their flashlights, creating an enchanting visual display as the victors’ parade moved forward.
Upon their arrival at Delhi airport from Barbados earlier in the day, the team was greeted with enthusiastic chants of “India, India,” following a delay caused by Hurricane Beryl.
Subsequently, the team had an audience with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dressed in jerseys marked with “Champions,” Rohit and his teammates were broadcasted as they engaged with the head of state.
Modi took a moment to pose for a photo with the squad before engaging in a conversation with the players.
