In a historic achievement, Pakistan clinched their first-ever series win against Australia on Australian soil in 22 years, winning the three-match One Day International (ODI) series. After losing the opening match, the Men in Green made a remarkable comeback, defeating the hosts in the final two games.

The highlight of Pakistan’s victory was their exceptional bowling attack. The pace bowlers dominated the Australian batting line-up, with no Australian batter managing to reach a half-century throughout the series. In the final match, Pakistan restricted Australia to a modest total of 140 runs and chased down the target with ease, reaching it in just 26.5 overs, losing only two wickets in the process.

The stunning win garnered widespread praise from prominent figures, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who congratulated the team for their remarkable performance. President Asif Ali Zardari also lauded the team, noting their triumph after 22 years and expressing that the entire squad deserved recognition for their stellar show.

“I hope that the Pakistan cricket team will achieve more success in the future too,” he added.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi praised the national team for making the country proud with their victory over Australia in the ODI series on Australian soil.

He highlighted that the team’s exceptional performance across all areas—fielding, bowling, and batting—deserved recognition, with both the players and the management playing a pivotal role in outclassing their formidable opponents.

“Today’s victory, the result of a team work, has spread happiness on the faces of the entire nation. Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf bowled well to rout Australia for a low total, while Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafiq once again batted responsibly to bring the team to victory. Similarly, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan also chipped in well.”

“I am sure that passion, hard work and determination lead to success in every work,” he added.

Former cricketer Rashid Latif said it was a big win for the home side, which was long due.

Rizwan brilliantly led the team from the front, he said, adding, “a wicket-keeper has a good eye on the game; as is the case with Rizwan who demonstrated remarkable captaincy skills”.

He commended the team for their unified effort, noting that the strong sense of unity within the squad reflected a positive atmosphere in the dressing room. Latif also emphasized that Pakistan should maintain the momentum gained from their recent ODI series win, following their success in the Test series against England.

“It seems like the chances for Pakistan’s win in the (forthcoming) T20 series against Australia are bright,” he said.

Former cricketer Ahmed Shehzad praised openers Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique for their clear-headed approach, which was evident in their performance. He added that they outshone the Australian batters.

“They complemented each other quite well,” he added.

Cricket legend Wasim Akram also extended his congratulations to the team, emphasizing that winning a series against the World ODI Champions was a significant accomplishment.

“Having witnessed and commentating on this series I feel honoured. This win will give huge confidence to the players, to the new captain Rizwan, cricket board and, most importantly, to the fans. It will lift Pakistan’s cricket image hugely,” he wrote on his X account.

Former captain Mohammad Hafeez congratulated the Green Shirts on their remarkable achievement of defeating Australia on their home ground, highlighting the fast bowlers’ crucial role in securing victories throughout the series. “We are proud of you,” he added.

Former wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal said after this victory “no one will ever say that Pakistan can’t win series in Australia”.

“Big Congratulations @MohsinnaqviC42 @iMRizwanPak and Team Pakistan. Great series win in the Aussie’s backyard,” tweeted former skipper Waqar Younis, under whose captaincy Pakistan won its ODI series in 2002 against Australia in Australia.

Commentator and former English cricketer Michael Vaughan praised Pakistan’s performance as outstanding. However, he noted that he couldn’t recall a series where Australia showed such a lack of intensity. “Bilateral series are on the decline I am afraid,” he said.

Muhammad Nawaz hailed Rizwan and co for this achievement.

“History has been created. Exceptional performance by the team,” wrote Ahmad Shahzad.

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen expressed his dissatisfaction with the involvement of politics in the game.

Taking to X, he wrote: “This is the reason they have to sort out all the negative noise and help the talent show off their skills.”

“Put the politics aside and let the cricket do the talking.”
