Franchise conflict over star cricketers in PSL 10
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 is set to run from April 8 to May 19, according to official sources. New PCB CEO Salman Naseer has started online meetings to ensure smooth planning. The player draft is scheduled for January 11.
The PCB plans to invite unsold Indian Premier League (IPL) stars to join the PSL. However, concerns over the league’s $200,000 salary cap might discourage top-tier players from participating.
While franchises earlier rejected direct player contracts, the PCB is now reconsidering, allowing teams to negotiate directly with agents.
This move could stir conflicts among franchises. If one team offers $400,000 to a player and another $500,000, the higher bidder would win, potentially upsetting players bound by the $200,000 cap, including domestic stars.
PSL officials are optimistic about signing global cricket icons like David Warner, Kane Williamson, Steve Smith, and Jonny Bairstow.
Shoaib Khalid, PCB’s Player Acquisition Manager, initially stepped down for academic reasons but agreed to work part-time. Khalid has reportedly reached out to several stars, including Warner, to gauge interest.
As the PCB and franchises strive to attract international talent, they face the challenge of maintaining a fair system for all players. Updates on foreign player recruitment and league preparations are expected soon.
