Former Pakistan captain and seasoned wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed has hinted at his potential retirement from international cricket, sparking speculation about the end of a distinguished career.

Speaking to the media at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday, Sarfaraz was asked about his future in the sport. With a hint of sarcasm, he suggested that a decision could be imminent, saying, “Regarding my career, I believe there’s nothing more to say. I understand what you’re waiting for, and it will happen soon.”

At 37, Sarfaraz, who will mentor the Dolphins in the upcoming Champions T20 Cup, has enjoyed a stellar career since his international debut in 2007. Over the years, he has represented Pakistan in 54 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 61 T20Is, accumulating 6,164 runs, including six centuries and 35 half-centuries.

Notable career milestones include leading Pakistan to their first ICC Champions Trophy title in 2017, with a memorable victory over India in the final. He also guided Pakistan to a record 11 consecutive T20I series wins, demonstrating his outstanding leadership abilities.

However, Sarfaraz’s career has seen both highs and lows. His most recent appearance for Pakistan came in 2023, during the first Test of a series against Australia, where he scored just seven runs before being dropped. Though he was part of the squad during Pakistan’s home series against Bangladesh and played in the opening Test against England, he did not feature in any match before being released after a disappointing performance in the opening Test.

Sarfaraz last represented Pakistan in white-ball cricket in November 2021 and has since been absent from the national setup. Despite not being part of the team recently, his significant contributions to Pakistan cricket continue to be remembered.
