PCB introduces ‘greenhouse concept’ to boost spin bowling advantage
The Pakistan national cricket team is set to face the West Indies in a highly anticipated two-match Test series starting January 17 in Multan. This series marks the West Indies’ first Test tour of Pakistan since 2006.
To leverage Pakistan’s spin-bowling strength, the Multan ground staff has been directed to prepare spinner-friendly pitches. Head curator Tony Hemming has introduced the “greenhouse concept” to maintain optimal pitch conditions, especially amid Multan’s foggy weather. This innovative technique involves covering the pitch and using heaters to retain heat and prevent moisture.
The series is a revival of a Test rivalry dating back decades. Of the 54 matches played between the two teams, Pakistan leads with 21 wins, while the West Indies have secured 18 victories. Their last Test series in 2021 ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced significant changes to the squad for this series. Imam-ul-Haq returns to the team, while players such as Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Abbas have been excluded.
