Pakistan captain Babar Azam became the youngest recipient of the nation’s third-highest civilian award, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, on Thursday.

At a Pakistan Day investiture ceremony at the Punjab Governor House, Pakistan’s all-format captain Babar was presented with the award by Governor Baligh Ur Rehman.

Babar became the youngest person to receive the Sitara-e-Imtiaz at the age of 28, and he was recognized for his outstanding achievements in the field of sports with the award.

Previously, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Babar’s predecessor, held the record for the youngest recipient of the Sitara-e-Imtiaz.

In 2018, at the Governor House in Karachi, Sarfaraz, who led Pakistan to victory in the Champions Trophy in 2017, received the honour from Mohammad Zubair, the governor of Sindh at the time.

On August 14 of last year, the government made the announcement that Babar would receive the country’s third-highest civilian honour.

Babar made his presentation in global cricket in May 2015 against Zimbabwe. In 2016, his performances ultimately led to debuts in T20Is and Tests.

Babar has scored 3,696 runs with an average of 48.63 in 47 Test matches and 4,813 runs with an average of 59.41 in 95 One-Day Internationals. Babar has scored 3,355 runs at an average of 41.41 in 99 T20I matches.

Babar, in his continuous cricket vocation, has won numerous honours including ICC Men’s ODI Player of the Year, and the Sir Garfield Sobers Prize. Under his captaincy, Pakistan crushed India without precedent for a world cup match and furthermore arrived at the finals of the last T20 world cup.

Aside from Babar and Sarfaraz different cricketers that have gotten the honor incorporate Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, and Shahid Afridi for their exceptional commitments.

The award was presented to Mohammad Yousuf in 2011, to Saeed Ajmal in 2015, to Inzamam ul Haq in 2005, and to Javed Miandad in 1992, respectively.
