The BCCI tweeted, “Rohit Sharma has tested positive for Covid-19 following a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on Saturday,”

“He is currently in isolation at the team hotel and is under the care of the BCCI Medical Team.”

On Saturday, the third day of a four-day warm-up match against Leicestershire, the right-handed batter did not bat in their second innings. On Thursday, he scored 25 runs in the first inning.

The postponed fifth Test of the series from the previous year begins on Friday at Edgbaston, Birmingham, leaving the 35-year-old little time to recover.

A coronavirus outbreak in the India camp necessitated the postponement of the Test, which was initially scheduled to take place at Old Trafford in Manchester in September 2017.
