The United States (U.S) has forbidden its troops from using the well-known Chinese application Tik-Tok, due to security reasons.

On-duty U.S troops have been prevented from using Tik-Tok and cadet commands have been ordered to exercise extra caution in the use of military tactics, according to a foreign news agency.

They also said that Americans are constantly reminded to beware of the dangers of using any social media platform when sharing their personal information and data.

US Senator Chuck Schumer has written to US Secretary of State Ryan McCarthy expressing security concerns over the well-known application Tik-Tok.

The letter stated that national security experts have expressed suspicion of collecting sensitive personal information, IP address and location information of the user using the Tik-Tok.

In the letter, he expressed concern that under Chinese law, local companies are forced to cooperate with secret agencies.

In this regard, US Secretary of State Ryan McCarthy said that the US military is assessing the situation with regard to security concerns.

TikTok did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The company has previously stressed its independence from Beijing and said no US user data is stored in China, but it has failed to assuage congressional concerns about the security of the personal data of US citizens using the app and whether content on the platform is subject to censorship from Beijing.

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) has launched a national security review of ByteDance’s $1 billion acquisition of US social media app Musical.ly.
