PTA green-lighted non-commercial 5G tests in Pakistan
The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has allowed non-commercial trials for the latest 5G wireless technology for digital cellular networks in Pakistan.
According to details, PTA has allowed two private mobile operators to conduct needful tests to check the usability and delivery of the technology.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has also formed a committee for the auction of 5G spectrum in the country.
The committee headed by the member IT of the ministry and comprise representatives of the four telcos operating in the country and an officer of the Frequency Allocation Board, will formulate policy regarding the auction of 5G licenses, including its fee and other issues.
Minister for Information Technology Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that Pakistan was among a few countries of the world where test trial of 5G was being conducted.
It is pertinent to mention here that one of the leading telecommunication operators of Pakistan, Zong successfully completed South Asia’s first official 5G video call and also reached the mind-boggling speeds of over 1.5GB per second during testing on Monday.
Zong chairman and CEO Wang Hua said “We will be showcasing more technologically advanced and groundbreaking use-cases to enable Pakistan to become one of the most digitally connected countries in the world.”
5G has become intensely controversial in many locations, with citizens’ groups, and a few scientists, expressing concerns about the possible health effects of radio-frequency (RF) energy transmitted by 5G base stations.
Some 5G pundits contend that the new network generates radiofrequency radiation that can damage DNA and lead to cancer; cause oxidative damage that can cause premature aging; disrupt cell metabolism; and potentially lead to other diseases through the generation of stress proteins.
