Snapchat in competition with TikTok by adding music to snaps
As TikTok's global rise is proved to be a competitor among all...
Snapchat appears to be cannibalizing the social media platform, ‘TikTok’.
It’s evident that Snapchat is imitating one of TikTok’s features, namely, the its ‘For You’ feature, which shows up on the feed. One can see interesting videos without having to follow anyone.
Snapchat has introduced ‘Spotlight’, a feed which allows users to view interesting videos which are surfaced specifically for them, without having to follow anyone.

This new feature, Spotlight, is an equalitarian and modest feature accessible to everyone. Snapchat made an announcement post saying, “We built Spotlight to be a place where anyone’s content can take center stage – without needing a public account, or an influencer following.” According to the company, its algorithm takes several factors into account when deciding what to promote on Spotlight: “Our ranking algorithm looks at factors that show people are interested in a particular Snap, like: the amount of time spent watching it, if it is favorited, and if it’s shared with friends. It also considers negative factors, including if the viewer skipped watching the Snap quickly.”
The video the company shared to promote the new feature shows Snaps that look almost exactly like what’s on TikTok every day.
Distributed between top videos, Snapchat gives out $1 million a day in order to encourage users to post their snaps to Spotlight. Snapchat says the amount paid out is determined by how many unique views a Snap gets in a day. Viral video creators will receive a hefty amount by the app.
This program will run till the end of 2020.
