Broadcast a personal message
This feature is useful in case you want to share important news or announcement with multiple contacts. You can send the same message to different contacts without joining any group. Tap on Broadcast lists at the top right of the screen. Tap the new list at the bottom. Then, add the recipients you want to get the message. On Android devices, you need to choose New Broadcast from the chats menu.
Customize alert tones for chat threads
You hear a tone when you receive a message on WhatsApp. You can customize this tone as well. You can select different tones to differentiate different groups or chats.
To avail of this feature, go into the chat and tap on the person’s or group’s name at the top of the screen. Tap on Custom Tone and change the default tone to the one you want.
Messages can now automatically disappear
Through this trick, you can make WhatsApp messages automatically disappear after a certain period. It can be useful to manage too many chats.
To enable this, go into the WhatsApp chat you want to change the settings for. Then, tap on the person’s or the group’s name. In the menu screen, scroll down so you can see “Disappearing messages”. The messages will be disappeared for everyone.
Change the background of your chat.
You can change the wallpapers of your chats. There is a variety of wallpapers. You can also select any photo from the gallery.
Go into WhatsApp and Select Chats from the next menu screen that appears, then tap on Chat Wallpaper.
Use bold, italic, and crossed out text
This is another trick you can use. You can use bold, italics, and even crossing text out features on your chats.
For bold text, add an *asterisk* to either side of the word or phrase. For italics, add an _underscore_ on either side. Add ~tilde~ to either side to strikethrough text.
Use secret Typewriter font
WhatsApp has a secret font you may not be aware of. You can write in a typewriter font as well. To do this, add three slanting apostrophes: “`.
For iOS, this is not the standard apostrophe. Press and hold the apostrophe sign to see the correct symbol to use.
