IPhones use Sony camera sensors, a 10-year partnership. In a recent tweet, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that the Cupertino business has utilised Sony image sensors. This is an unusual disclosure from Apple about the precise components used in its gadgets. The camera resolution, aperture, and other basic details are typically included in the specifications for the company’s iPhone models. Several rumours have circulated throughout the years claiming that Sony is providing camera sensors for the iPhone. Even the iPhone 15 is rumoured to contain a cutting-edge Sony picture sensor.

Cook revealed in a tweet on Tuesday that Sony has been supplying camera sensors for the iPhone for over a decade. It also featured a photo of Cook and Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida touring the Kumamoto facility. This declaration appears to have put an end to the rumours that the iPhone employed Sony camera sensors.

According to a recent claim, the iPhone 15 series could use a cutting-edge Sony picture sensor. It is reported to be capable of clearly catching a person’s face even in the presence of strong backlighting. According to reports, Sony has added double the saturation signal intensity in each pixel compared to typical sensors.

This rumoured Sony camera sensor is said to collect more light and decrease overexposure and underexposure. However, Sony has yet to mass-produce these sensors. They will allegedly be produced at the company’s Nagasaki plant. The iPhone 15 series is expected to be released in the second half of 2023 by Apple.

Sony is expected to have a 44 percent share of the complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor market in 2021, with Samsung coming in second with 18.5 percent. The corporation is claimed to have intended to spend over JPY 900 billion (nearly Rs. 54,000 crores) throughout 2023 with the hopes of capturing approximately 60% of the CMOS image sensor market by 2025.
