Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is currently conducting a limited iOS test for a new cross-posting feature that allows users to share content simultaneously on both Facebook and Threads. This feature, reminiscent of the existing cross-posting option between Facebook and Instagram, is expected to streamline the sharing process for multimedia and text updates across platforms.

While the feature is in its early stages and currently excludes the European Union, it has the potential to be a significant boon for content creators. The move not only caters to user convenience but also strengthens Threads’ integration into Meta’s broader app ecosystem, potentially boosting the Threads app’s user engagement if the feature is expanded.

Threads, initially faced user dissatisfaction when experimenting with cross-posting in the past, as posts were automatically shared on Facebook and Instagram. This raised concerns, as users often maintain distinct personas on these platforms, engaging with different audiences.

To address this, Meta introduced an option for users to disable automatic sharing by default, mitigating the backlash and allowing users to have more control over their content distribution.

Beyond cross-posting, Meta is exploring innovative features for its platforms. An image shared on LinkedIn by a user named Grujicic showcases a trial of a “Write with AI” writing assistant, aiming to assist users in crafting their posts on the platform.

With Meta’s extensive user base of 3.98 billion across its family of apps, even a small percentage adopting the cross-posting feature could significantly increase content on Threads. In 2021, Meta introduced the ability to cross-post to Instagram, expanding on the earlier option to cross-post Stories between the two platforms.

Threads, launched as a Twitter/Clubhouse competitor last summer, quickly gained traction by leveraging Meta’s existing social networks. New Threads users were automatically connected with their Instagram contacts, propelling the platform to over 100 million users within five days and securing a notable share of the weekly active user base of other social media giants.

As per Meta’s recent quarter report, Threads now boasts over 130 million monthly active users, partially attributed to strategic promotion within the main feeds of Facebook and Instagram. The live testing of the cross-posting feature signals Meta’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and connectivity across its diverse range of social platforms.
