WhatsApp has launched a new feature called “Typing Indicators,” which introduces the familiar “three dots” cue, notifying users when someone is typing in a chat. This feature is now available to users on both Android and iOS platforms worldwide.
According to a statement from WhatsApp released on Thursday, December 5, the feature will display a “…” cue at the bottom of the chat interface whenever a participant begins typing in either a group or individual chat.
Along with this visual cue, the participant’s profile picture will also be displayed, helping users identify who is actively participating in the conversation.
The new typing indicator aims to improve real-time interaction, making it easier for users to engage with each other.
The indicator will be visible in both group and one-on-one chats. This feature is automatically activated for all users, though it is not clear if there is an option to disable it. The typing bubble indicator has been a feature of Apple’s iMessage for some time.
WhatsApp continues to be popular in Pakistan, with 52.3 million users, as per a 2024 report by the World Population Review. The messaging platform has maintained its widespread usage by consistently introducing new features that enhance user experience.
Recently, WhatsApp has also been experimenting with a new method allowing users to scan QR codes to join channels on the platform. Additionally, last month, the platform introduced a ‘Drafts Indicator’ to help users track and complete unfinished messages.
